Former Israeli ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer said on Sunday that Israel should focus more of its attention in reaching out to evangelical Christians, as they make up the bulk of Israelâs support.
Dermer, being interviewed onstage at a conference organized by the publication Makor Rishon, was responding to a question of whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had placed too much emphasis on outreach with evangelical Christians.

âPeople have to understand that the backbone of Israelâs support in the United States is the evangelical Christians. Itâs true because of numbers and also because of their passionate and unequivocal support for Israel,â he said. âAbout 25 percent [of Americans]âsome people think moreâare evangelical Christians. Less than 2 percent of Americans are Jews. So if you look just at numbers, you should be spending a lot more time doing outreach to evangelical Christians than you would do to Jews.â
