WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A train derailment and fire have prompted the evacuation of Custer this afternoon.
Whatcom County Emergency Management reports a number of cars are on fire near Main and Portal Drive in Custer.
The State Patrol reports the train is carrying crude oil.
Law enforcement has evacuated everyone from the Custer Area, and people are being kept away from the area.
I-5 is closed between Grandview and Birch Bay Lynden Road and traffic is being diverted around the incident.
There is no ETA on when the freeway will be re-opened.
