Marc Botenga was speaking at a time when the European Union is under enormous pressure as a result of its sluggish coronavirus vaccine plan, with statistics published by Our World in Data suggesting just three percent of the roughly 446 million population have had their first jab. During an interview with the Spanish news website CTXT, Mr Botenga, a member of the left-wing Workers Party of Belgium, was questioned about the EU’s £677billion coronavirus rescue package which was ratified last year, and which is intended to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
