In recent weeks Prime Minister Boris Johnson brought forward the ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 to 2030.
The Committee on Climate Change is also suggesting sales of gas boilers should be halted by 2033 and people should be encouraged to cut the amount of meat and dairy they eat by a fifth in the next decade.
Now Essex University has declared a climate and ecological emergency and is calling on its 20,000-strong community to help find solutions.
