Imagine a giant mountain that towers over a large open field covered with hills and animals with rivers and creeks running through fed by mighty glaciers. This amazing scene can be found in Alaska at Mount Denali, or Mount McKinley,. The mountain has two names and thousands of people attempt to climb it every year. It has a confusing location and amazing scenery. Mount Denali is truly an incredible mountain, from climbers to glaciers to being one of the seven summits Mount Denali truly has it all.
Mount Denali's name started a huge controversy. It was originally Mount Denali or "the Great One" by the natives of the land. Later, gold prospector William Dickey named it Mount McKinley after the presidential candidate William McKinley for his support of the gold standard. After a while many people wanted to change the name back to Denali, but lawmakers in Ohio fought against changing the name and were backed by many. The mountain was referred to as both Mount Denali and Mount McKinley until 2015 when President Barrack Obama officialy changed the name to Denali. The official name is Mount Denali but many still call it Mount McKinley.(Zimmerman)
