When a county as rich in history as Escambia County creeps up on its 200th anniversary, a single day, month or even season's worth of celebrations do not suffice. Maybe a month would do for the 100th anniversary, but this is the big 2-0-0 we're talking about here.
That's why a commission of some of Pensacola's most accomplished historians, archaeologists and professors put their heads together in 2019 to begin planning what is now a five-month project to commemorate and recognize Florida's eldest county (along with St. Johns) on the lead-up to the county's official 200th birth date on July 17.
