KUALA LUMPUR: Oil and gas services firm Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Bhd (EPIC) has placed bids for local fabrication jobs and in Brunei, which is its first venture to the sultanate and the combined value for both bids is close to RM130 million, its chief executive Ramli Shahul Hameed said.  “I am quite confident one or two jobs would be ours…this is the first time EPIC is trying for Brunei. Estimated value of this Brunei bid is RM30 million. For local jobs with Carigali Hess Operating Company Sdn Bhd, ExxonMobil Malaysia Sdn Bhd, these tenders are close to about RM80 to RM100 million,” Ramli said at a briefing here on March 26. EPIC is bidding for the fabrication jobs via its unit, EPIC Mushtari Engineering Sdn Bhd (EME). EME is involved in onshore and offshore minor fabrication, plant shutdown activities, maintenance and repair activities. It holds several licenses from national oil firm Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), which covers mechanical maintenance services, major and minor construction work and onshore construction and fabrication.  Asked on the firm’s privatisation plans, Ramli said: “We are not aware of that.” It was reported in last month that EPIC’s major shareholders Terengganu Inc Sdn Bhd (TISB), an investment vehicle of the state of Terengganu wanted to privatise EPIC. The deal hit a snag following resistance from EPIC’s second-largest shareholder Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd (AZRB).  It was reported that TISB offered RM2.10 a share for remaining shares of EPIC while AZRB asked for RM2.50 apiece.TISB owns 40% of EPIC and AZRB, 21.3%.  EPIC is involved in port services via Konsortium Pelabuhan Kemaman Sdn Bhd (KPK) which manages, maintains and operates terminals in Kemaman Port. In October 2006, it took full control of the East Dockyard and the Liquid Chemical Berth (LCB) Terminal in Kemaman Port from Lembaga Pelabuhan Kemaman. EPIC and Road Builder (M) Holdings Bhd own 61% and 39% of KPK, respectively.  Kemaman Port is a deepwater seaport and it is capable of handling  vessels up to 150,000 dead-weight tonnes (DWT) and various types of cargoes ranging from general cargo, dry bulk to liquid bulk.
