Report: Still ‘high concentrations of contaminants’ in groundwater
NORTH SMITHFIELD – The Stamina Mills office building, a longtime symbol of a bygone era for the Forestdale neighborhood, has officially been torn down.
The demolition took place last Tuesday, Dec. 15, after more than a year of discussion. Crews coordinated by the Environmental Protection Agency demolished the building that once served as the office of the Stamina Mills.
Town officials initially planned to raze the building last year, but higher-than-expected costs and the COVID-19 budget crisis put those plans on hold. In July, the EPA determined that asbestos within the building posed a threat to human health and took on its demolition as part of their cleanup efforts on the site.
