HOLYOKE – Gloria Caballero-Roca became the sixth and first Latina mayoral candidate for the Sept. 21 mayoral primary. The political newcomer’s campaign will focus “on people – not politics.”
She collected the necessary 250 signatures for inclusion on the Sept. 21 ballot, joining City Councilors Rebecca Lisi and Michael J. Sullivan, School Committee Member Devin Sheehan, William ‘Billy’ Glidden, and Joshua Garcia, currently Blandford’s town administrator.
In 1997, Caballero-Roca migrated to the U.S. from her native Havana, Cuba, eventually settling in Holyoke with her husband and two children in 1999. She taught Spanish at Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts.
