Environmental advocates rally in West Milford to protest gas compressor project

People gather in New Milford on Saturday April 24, 2021 to protest the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company and the two proposed gas compressors along their pipeline. One would be in Wantage and one in New Milford.
WEST MILFORD — Acrimony toward the proposed construction of a new natural gas compression station in the state's protected Northern Highlands brought a crowd of environmental advocates to a rarely occupied micro-park Saturday afternoon.
The rally at the intersection of Greenwood Lake Turnpike and East Shore Road was a protest of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company's pending East 300 Upgrade Project. Designed to meet the demand for ConEdison connections in Westchester County, New York, the project includes two compressor station upgrades in Wantage and Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania and the installation of a new electric-driven compressor turbine in a former quarry near the Monksville Reservoir.
