A 13-year-old boy has spent his life in and out of group and foster homes. He is one of more than 12,000 children in North Caroline living in foster care. LaDuffy, an energetic boy with an infectious smile, is full of life. He loves to play outside, ride his bike, jump on the trampoline and play with action figures. You’ll say smile look at the camera, he’ll say cheese! I’m telling you he’s so happy and giddy, he’ll get off the bus and he’s just happy and happy," Best said.Best said LaDuffy is autistic and has limited speech. He needs a patient, supportive family with structure. “My fear is that I don’t want him to age out of foster care and those big group home settings, I don’t want that for LaDuffy. I’ve seen people take in children with special needs and these kids succeed in their home and that’s what my desire is for him.
