GAINESVILLE, Florida – Freshman Ben Barrett pitched five scoreless innings and allowed just one hit in FSU’s 5-3 loss at No. 3 Florida in front of 7,441 fans at Condron Family Ballpark Tuesday night.
Barrett, from Orlando, allowed just three batters to reach base in his fourth career start. He forced a double play and stranded two other runners.
Neither team scored in the first five innings – and it took under one hour to complete that much – before the Seminoles took a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning. Jordan Carrion, a former Gator, opened the inning with his second hit of the game and scored on DeAmez Ross’s RBI double. After Jaime Ferrer reached on a fielding error, James Tibbs tripled FSU’s lead with his eighth two-bagger of the year.
The Gators got one back in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Andrew Armstrong, but two fly balls with runners on base kept the score 3-1. After scoring a run on an error, Florida took the lead for good with a three-run home run from Ty Evans in the bottom of the eighth.
