With the school year wrapping up, so does another fiscal year for Elk City Public Schools.
Like most schools across the country, a poor economy caused by the on-going pandemic has reflected in financial numbers for Elk City, however Superintendent Rick Garrison says with the school system receiving money from the federal government’s stimulus package the school is in line to see a carryover into the 2021 – 2022 fiscal year.
Garrison says if Oklahoma Senate Bill 229, better known as the Redbud School Funding Act, passes it could supply the school with $80,000 annually. If passed, it would allocate up to $42.1 million in medical marijuana sales tax revenue each year to help property-poor traditional school districts as well as brick-and-mortar charter schools with the costs associated with maintaining and constructing school buildings and other infrastructure.
