Elizabeth Esteban, a teen from the unincorporated area of Mecca in the eastern Coachella Valley with ties to the Purépecha in western Mexico, has gone viral for her acceptance to Harvard University.
But she sees that as just another step toward her ultimate goal. In one breath, Esteban lays out her intent, "I plan to study government at Harvard, because I really want to go to law school and become an immigration lawyer, then someday run for Congress."
She made that plan when she started her freshman year at Desert Mirage High School in Thermal. And although she sounds confident today, she admits that reaching that step has been a bit of a rollercoaster.
