On Friday, McKee's office went further and said any further work based on the proposal drawn up by consultants Alvarez & Marsal would "will be put on hold," according to an email from spokesman Matt Sheaff.
The pause will take effect "so that we can have real and thoughtful dialogue and engagement with the community, stakeholders and the General Assembly on what the best solutions are to provide high-quality care that meets the needs of Rhode Islanders seeking these vital services," Sheaff wrote.
The announcement comes the same week Attorney General Peter Neronha said his office had launched an inquiry into the "ongoing situation" at Eleanor Slater Hospital, "particularly as it pertains to patient care."
