For the second time this preseason, the East Carolina University baseball team has been recognized nationally as one of the top teams in the country in preseason rankings. The first ranking came from âCollegiate Baseball's Fabulous 50â preseason poll in December where they were tabbed No. 16, and the most recent ranking came from Perfect Game where they were ranked No. 13.
Although the Pirates have been ranked in the top 20 twice for preseason rankings, head coach Cliff Godwin said that rankings are something the team takes little interest in.
âThe preseason rankings to us, it means nothing,â said Godwin. âI don't mean that in a bad way, but they donât pass out trophies in the preseason. You can predict that Alabama will win the national championship, but until they actually do it it doesn't mean anything.â
