The man beside me at the counter said he wanted pepper for his soup. And Laura Hanson, one of the owners at North Side Cafe, told him that was OK. He could have it. Better, she said, than too much salt.
In January, soup sells well at this large restaurant on the northwest corner of Grand Forks. At noon on Wednesday, the parking lot was almost full. People were finding their way to favorite spots inside the the North Side Cafe. There is seating along one side. There are tables way down the center and into a back area. Windows all around.
