An Eastpointe worker has died following a trench collapse, authorities said.
Brian Theobald, 45, was an employee of the Eastpointe Department of Public Works and died in the incident that occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Fire Chief Nick Sage said.
In a statement, Eastpointe City Manager Elke Doom said the Department of Public Works was repairing a water main break on Gratiot Avenue near Lydia Avenue when the trench around the water main collapsed and trapped Theobald in the hole. He was covered with water and mud in the trench that was about to 6-7 feet deep, Sage said.
