DOST regional director Ernesto Granada said in an interview Tuesday the opening is one of the highlights of the regional science and technology week celebration. The Eastern Visayas Science Centrum will feature notable exhibits such as the "gravity well", "feel the shake", "head on a platter", "pendulum wave", "pedal power", among many others. It will also feature thematic interactive exhibits in the field of renewable energy, agriculture, aquaculture sciences, and natural resources, according to Granada. "The exhibit will spark young minds and inspire them to become more interested in discovering science and appreciate how cool science works. It will surely ignite interest in pursuing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, thereby, helping us develop a science and technology culture among the youth," Granada told the Philippine News Agency (PNA). The DOST-funded project will be housed temporarily at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo town with the provincial government providing the space for the interactive exhibit. Its permanent location will be at the future provincial capitol building also in Palo town. The project is supported by the Department of Education, Department of Energy, Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Leyte Normal University, Eastern Visayas State University, and University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College.
