East Tennessee boaters can sympathize with the Suez fiasco | Sam Venable

Pity the captain and owners of the giant freighter Ever Given.
It was bad enough that their ship got wedged in the Suez Canal in late March. They also had to bear the brunt of 100,000 jokes worldwide. And for a truckload of salt into this festering wound, now they’ve been slapped with a $1 billion tab for getting unstuck.
Anyone who’s ever been stranded on the impounded waters of the Tennessee River — and we know who we are — can identify with their plight.
Trust us; things that abruptly go “bump” aren’t necessarily limited to the middle of the night. Broad daylight can be an equal opportunity deliverer of woe. This is especially true when these reservoirs aren’t at full pool.
