Television personality Baz Ashmawy has opened up about the experience of losing his father at a young age, and of struggling to fit in as a mixed race child in Ireland in the 1980s.
The 45-year-old was born to an Irish mother and an Egyptian father, growing up in Dublin after spending his early childhood in Libya.
When Baz was just eight years old, his father left his family, ultimately returning to Egypt. Although Baz went to Egypt to live with his father for a time during his teens, the latter died not long afterwards.
