'We want to be optimistic, but we want to be realistic;' New Haven theaters aim for summer return

Two New Haven area arts organizations are watching the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine, hoping to rekindle the magic of live theater this coming summer while weighing contingency plans if that proves inadvisable.
Carla Sullivan, vice president of external relations at the Shubert Theatre, and Rebecca Goodheart, producing artistic director with the Elm Shakespeare Co., said this week that the progress of the fight against the coronavirus, particularly concerning vaccination, was the main variable at hand as they considered the possibility of welcoming back audiences in the months to come.
