Four museums in the Barstow area will treat guests to free lunch and a series of presentations on local history this weekend in a bid for new volunteers that they say are direly needed.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. and lasting one to two hours this coming Saturday, July 24, the event will be held at Mojave River Valley Museum, which is hosting it in tandem with the Route 66 Mother Road Museum, the Western American Railroad Museum and the Daggett-Calico Historical Society’s museum.
Pat Schoffstall, committee chairwoman at the Mojave River Valley Museum, told the Daily Press that each museum is stretched on manpower to varying degrees, but she said all of them need more docents — the person that “sits by the door, welcomes in people and answers their questions.”
