To truly process whats going on and at the same time because of the pen demick we have millions of americans voting early voting by mail right now as we speak as the just the factors around them the variables around them keep shifting the outcome for the election is anybodys guess and anybody is a fool to say they know what it might be but the unpredictable come back to you is trump showing any symptoms do we know. We have not heard and it is far too early to speculate on that we do know what his doctor a said which as you said hes feeling well and he is going to continue to push forward with his president ial duties however this is definitely going to change the shape of as william mentioned the election the president and the 1st lady have to quarantine for 14 days in 13 days we are supposed to have the 2nd president ial debate between donald trump and joe biden there were already some jokes and not jokes circulating after the debacle that was the 1st debate whether it should be canceled and now it may at least have to be pushed back if not fully canceled this is something that were also going to be watching. Talking about things being postponed or canceled wm this question was due to the election itself be postponed that is highly highly unlikely. You cant just push back an election the election is written into law how its supposed to work it would really take a massive act of congress and the democrats control the House Republicans control the senate for that to happen what we are talking about though is and should be very clear trump as far as we know has no symptoms trump as far as we know is not sick but it does limit his ability to campaign and it does bring up the question of what happens if hes not able to be on that ballot when so many people have already put in there put in their votes many of whom for donald trump we do have a succession of powers statutes in the United States we have the 20 for the moment we have other kinds of acts that have been passed by congress over the decades to address succession of power donald trump often likes to make it seem like everything is about him she is filling a role he feels the office of the presidency is more than just about him. There are regulations in place for what happens if the president is no longer able to assume his duties going to the Vice President the Vice President the Vice President the speaker of the house is currently a democrat nancy pelosi the leader of the senate and then to the cabinet where were far from anything like that happening but its important to note that this is not about donald trump this goes much bigger to the presidency itself speaking about the republicans nominate someone someone else to run for president they could i mean its their party to decide whos on their ballot but down to also won the primaries i mean he was elected by Republican Voters in those states to be the candidate we keep saying this is unprecedented i mean yes theres been a succession of power yes i mean Woodrow Wilson contracted the flu during the flu pandemic in 1900 but never has happened or so close to election that has so such a profound or possible profound implications for the leadership in i say its Going Forward we just dont know where this will go and it doesnt help that donald trump has been playing down the severity of this virus as in playing down the measures to take to prevent or to to try to protect yourself from this virus we saw just in the debate last week him kind of making fun of Wearing Masks and i think we have that clip to show that really gives us new context looking at what happens today thats of the i mean i have a masquerade here i put a mask on it you know when i think i need it tonight is an example everybody has had a test and youve had social distancing and all of the things that you have to but i was there mistakes when needed when needed i were missing ok let me out i dont have i dont where mass like him every time you see me go to misc he could be speaking 200 feet away from him he shows up with the biggest mask ive ever seen i will say. Coming back to you in washington about how is the complaining going what are you hearing from his team. Well its definitely going to have to change a lot and now i mean again with the question of whether the debates going to happen we also have a Vice President ial debate thats coming up next week will that happen because the Vice President has recently been in close quarters with the President Donald Trump was supposed to fly today to both wisconsin and florida to hotly contested states to hold you know his big massive rallies that he loves to hold that he draws a lot of energy from those of course been canceled whether or not hes going to be able to continue the same momentum that he has while hes confined to the white house very much remains to be seen and meanwhile of course we have to think about well joe biden was recently in a room with the president not too close to him but we dont know if the president was already positive during the debate were very certain that joe biden is going to be taking a covert test himself very soon but yes the shape this campaign has already been as we have said many times unprecedented now its going to take out an even more different. Democrats of course explore this they could point to the fact that hes been very lax with is mosque wearing making fun of job. Where in the mosque old the time. The dems its put that. They have to be careful how they use this i think exploits a very strong term they they will force use it to their advantage we already saw bidens latest tweet before this news broke which a few hours ago she said it again accusing donald trump of playing down the virus denying its severity and making Health Insurance such a core issue thats what democrats are really riding on this election in addition to im just not donald trump hes also writing on health care is something that americans want is something american support and if you would like me joe biden i will ensure that obamacare is built upon and made even better or is trump wants to end it and i think turning from trump having coronavirus to the health care of all americans and showing that stark difference where donald trump has the present United States will naturally get the best possible care thats out there were as Many Americans do not have that kind of care and cannot afford that kind of care thats something the democrats will probably go ahead with that have to be careful not to appear to be gloating not to be appear to be incensed of the fact that donald trump who is a human being after all has coronavirus like so many other americans have. Come back to you what about the other members of his team in the wide halls and his pen team all that any more infections we know. Well were definitely going to have to watch how this trickles out i mean as weve said trump has been recently in fact just earlier this week when it was known that his aide hope was positive among white house insiders he went to new jersey to hold a closed door fundraiser like you like we said weve already hes already had to cancel his 2 big rallies but hes been in close quarters this week with the Vice President with the leaders of the house and the senate you know this is going to spread somehow we think among the elite washingtonians and this is a very virus were going to have to wait and see exactly how it spreads out but i expect were going to hear some more quarantine stories coming soon and again who knows how this is going to push things around with the election with the campaign and with indeed the votes that 2000000 americans have already cast. William trump is joining a list of World Leaders who got infected the brazils balls narrow this little schenkel in bella ruse or is johnson of course in the u. K. With a very serious case now trump is there a Common Thread i mean especially comes to trump olson r. O. And Boris Johnson they all play down the virus they didnt listen to their science or visors they said this is going to pass trying to keep people going about their normal business it is further evidence of how insidious and vicious this pandemic is this virus does not care if you believe in the sciences viruses not care if you believe in hand washing in masks and all the things that are epidemiologists never ologists are telling us this virus doesnt care if you care this virus can affect everyone doesnt matter if youre a republican or if youre a democrat and i think donald trump having been tested positive for this virus is a very good reminder for us all to continue taking this pandemic extremely seriously because we are all vulnerable and as soon as we leave the studio were going to put our masks back on and thats a good reminder for everyone you definitely will in washington will improve here in the studio thank you very much a leaders around the world have been reacting to President Trumps announcement he and his wife of tested positive 19 german chancellor Angela Merkel spokesman tweeted that the chancellor was sending best wishes to the president and the 1st lady for a full and speedy recovery in the u. K. Prime minister Boris Johnson tweeted his best wishes to the couple also wishing them a speedy recovery polish president. Also wished the power well saying both poland and the u. S. Would win their fight against 90 meanwhile President Trump social media director dense vino was upbeat he said that the president and 1st lady were doing great adding that everyone at the white house hoped for a quick recovery. You know while your secretary of state might pump a. O. Says he has tested negative for the coronavirus appeal left romana on friday after a 3 day visit telling reporters traveling with him to pray shirts he was quote feeling fantastic appears that the last time he met with trump was on september 15th at the white house. The news like that usually has an effect on World Markets as well lets cross to our financial correspondent in frankfurt us to ponder i suppose whats the reaction in the financial circles. Get out the sentiments have certainly turned negative and the stock markets across the globe are trading in the red in tokyo in paris in london is the same and even behind me for look at the dax its actually struggling down there clearly there is growing uncertainty now as to how negotiations over the new fiscal package is going to proceed whats the implication going to be on the elections so theres a lot of uncertainty there and at this point of time the traders are actually looking to stay in safe territory by looking toward safe passage. From the in front of funds for us and for more on the medical a background of that whole story were now joined by all the young since hes the president of the german into Disciplinary Association of Critical Care and emergency medicine is yes you treat patients infected with the coronavirus tested positive like President Trump what does that actually mean. I think at the moment this means President Trump is has got an infection with his ass cough to virus that is the infection that doesnt mean anything at any point and that he is seriously ill most of the patients getting infected with the virus get them there and slow and very smoove cause without any serious adverse events so that means that he got infected at that he got the virus then we have to look at the next few days how all of this virus will work in the president and how it will effect 1st the lungs and 2nd of the organ system so at the moment he seems to be in quarantined he seems to be well that is all the information. Available and i think we have to look at the next few days to see if this disease will take another maybe serious cause but you said most cases a mild but the president is 74 years old what difference does that make. Its youre quite right. Very well know that age isnt very important predictor for adverse events and the cause in covert 19 disease so adamant i dont know of any other code will be that is the president as it went over the last years he seems to be ill will oppose a little bit overweight that is another risk factor but if it doesnt have any other serious pulmonary disease or any other serious Heart Disease or diabetes age will be an independent predictor or serious cause but not the only so we have to look very close at the next 2 to 6 days to see if the virus will spread into the land and will affect the lung i think this is the most critical point at this time whats the advice you would give President Trump right now to behave how to behave best for a medical perspective briefly if you can from the medical perspective he has to be very close look after the vital signs should be monitored closely fever should be monitored the restaurateur rate oxygen saturation should be monitored very closely because this is a very important measure. Because i think there will be on them a measure of taking a. Chest x. Ray and perhaps the doctors will treat him with and to call a tory stops and say. To prevent trouble and melissa in 2 days its only on since the president of the german interDisciplinary Association of critical and emergency medicine thank you very much for joining us here on set of unions i thank you. E. U. Leaders agreed yesterday to impose sanctions on dozens of russian officials linked to the why the disputed reelection of. Cyprus dropped its veto Office Support in. The previous warnings and sanctions on those involved in the drilling have done little to deter and correct our the e. U. Has promised to reassess the situation before the end of the year. Lets turn now to some of the other stories making headlines today german chancellor Angela Merkel has announced she will meet the exiled delusion opposition leaders. In berlin next week merkel as voiced admiration for women protesting against villa resort area and later let some of the sanka germany has not recognized his claim of victory in the recent president ial poll. Hundreds of catalonia independence supporters after the streets of basra lona to mark the 3rd anniversary of their regions failed attempts to break away from spain a 2017 referendum on independence was declared illegal by Spains Constitutional Court and triggered a national crisis. 7 stay in spain where the government has ordered the capital madrid back into lockdown theres been a surge in the number of corona virus infections the countrys Health Minister said thursday that new cases in the madrid region accounted for almost 44 percent of new infections across the country in the previous 24 hours the Regional Government opposed the measures but now says it will comply but instead launch a legal challenge against the lockdown. This hassle and bustle could soon become a thing of the past as madrid prepares for its 2nd lockdown. Its exasperating not knowing whats going to happen tomorrow but i understand that given how cases are increasing in madrid a lock down is the only solution so will have to do it. With the hospitals that capacity and infection rates by rolling out of control the Spanish Government had little choice but to act conservative regional leaders fiercely opposed plans to lock down the capitol after weeks of political infighting they finally agreed on thursday. For now they agreed measures are mild compared to those spain in force throughout the entire country in spring this time Madeleine Hughes will not be restricted to their homes but will still be able to venture outside to go to school or work or to go shopping crossing municipal borders for nonessential reasons will not be allowed but bars and restaurants will be permitted to operate at 50 percent of their capacity though they will have to close early. Some fear this could be too little too late for me the measures that the Spanish Government have proposed are in my opinion insufficient because they are minimal but they could contribute to preventing the collapse that we had in march with. The economic consequences the coming lockdown could have on those already in dire straits are also a concern if we have a new lockdown in madrid sales will drop by 30 or 40 percent but health comes 1st without health we cannot work out what it was about to me and the measures seem fine to me if we can continue canonic activity inside the city as long as we can keep that up so people dont lose their jobs and the crisis doesnt become worse than their pet damage. The coming weeks will show whether this frail political compromise will suffice to turn the tide of madrids rising infections. Sports news now munich striker. Time well have more on president Tom Sawyer Moses and its integrations of a top shelf yalof next to the point what does german reunification 30 years ago mean to the countrys young people just. Wasnt enough for live from in the news thats what. The the. True the point. Clear positions from International Perspective such a nice marking the 1st years then a verse or a of the reunification of the 2 germany some east and west today its a different country more makes all diverse and the Younger Generation of course has its own perspective so whose germany is it find out on to the point shortly. To the point such as a. Name to the t w. What keeps us to say what makes us sick and how do we stay on fish. My name is dr carlson the time i talk to medical experts. Watch them at work. And then discuss what you can do to improve your health. Stay tuned and lets all try to stay in good shape. In 60 minutes w. With him how to be done because others will the highest i know if i had known the boat would be that small i never would have gone on a trip i would not have put myself and my parents in the danger of the bottom of the dream of the going to get a fleet would. Love one funky little bit one little bit to give them i had Serious Problems on a personal level and i was unable to live there much im going to. Want to know their story and for migrants to verify it and reliable information for more grants. From. Germany as marking the 1st year found a verse 3 of the reunification of the 2 germanys east and west following the full of the big. In wall in the crumbling of communism it seemed at the time like something of a miracle but for the people of todays germany theres been a change of perspectives the country has become more makes more diverse which is welcomed by most but violently rejected by so what is the Younger Generation think about the way things are developing on to the point this week we are asking german reunification is it time for the next generation. Or thanks very much indeed for joining us here on through the points are my guests here in the studio are my 2 boys who is an art student focusing on migration and she argues that we in west germany are rediscovering the eastern german identity and we must learn from it also with us is melanie shine journalist and psychologist who says reunification shaped us know we need a shaping society under very warm welcome to see journalist and radio presenter vladimir ballard some who believes that todays united germany is wall diverse than ever and we should embrace that. Thank you for being here folks thank you for those 3 interesting statements id like to begin with you my 2 i called german reunification and my introduction in the fall of the berlin wall a miracle because thats how it felt to me i was there at the time and i was amazed by what i saw what does it mean for you today. In the 1st place it meant something from the parents after the ringing of station that meant for them that contracts terminated by parents back then were contract workers just explained sort of about the vietnamese background and the contract workers in germany. Starting in 1800 i guess because thats when my father 1st came to east germany. Vietnam and east germany back then had a contract. During those socialist union to invite contract workers in or to work for them in companies and stuff like that will get us aboard because many people i think many of our views would not know that and your parents in that community in eastern germany did they celebrate german reunification was it was it a joyous occasion for them for them it was a shock because their contracts would have terminated years later and the ecosystem kind of fell apart they had to start start to be on their own to find ways in order to survive not only the contracts terminated but also the Living Conditions and kind of. Changed in a way ok thats a fascinating introduction to your story will continue and thats a just a little bit shortly melanie 30 use of reunification are you some of what is there to celebrate from from your perspective and well i think were just i think they really if you question is one of their biggest if she wins of germany of course and i think its not another day you celebrate with your family. And maybe its also because. You know. In the years when when the unification happened or of the year before and it was a people who were fighting for democracy as a player is. From their peaceful revolution or not really as a subject a 5th day here in the stunt you know so many running for so well we had so that we had the chance to create a new constitution and 3 missed this chance unfortunately so it was more a symbolic act in a way and a take over and described as the whole style takeover the west taking over the east. Yeah well we had that there were people im creating a new constitution they had great ideas like the wired to work the wired to. An apartment environmental protections things we discussed today. Politicians decided to not do that but decide to decide which for the take over and i think thats the reason why people from the east and west didnt need to i level and this was followed by some problems were talking about today or the Younger Generations talk about today theres a lot of me you were a young teenager of the time tell us about what your perspective was there in the truth today while the 9th of november 89 was actually more important to me than the thought of october 1900. The fall of the wall of history have been 15 years of age and my mother came into my room and said i know this is theres really something historical happening and i want that actually the next day we have been living in it lived in life at the time and i wanted to go to west but of course the next day what i did with most of my friends so school was empty its been a friday i remember that and this was just a great time and i will you too to see all these places to meet people and to see all sort of differences from the very beginning when i went to west berlin i suddenly noticed that this is another part of germany i wasnt really prepared for it so. And the 1st of october i mean you have to remember just less than a year later the. Then a year this the state of g. D. R. Disease germany actually you know just disappeared from the earth and thats a very very short period. Was talking a baritone perhaps people in the east got to go to rule deal you might say from from the west and im just wondering i mean no one can tell exactly whats going to stick because its been a democratic decision has been like elections on the 18th of march in 1901st free election in east germany which was there and people decided people voted and they voted for the conservative movement which was strongly of course also supported by a head would call in this government in a city you from the west but still the east german people decided themselves you know what happened to their country and it wasnt a takeover they were headed north also big chris i call this sad you will have promised a lot yeah from of the law to now its only after one years later and people lost trust in the government so youre absolutely right and was there decision of the people and you wanted that and was based on promises which were not told is true but thats nothing new in politics id say. Im just im just wondering why too when we when we talk about this sort of the 3 decades of german reunification do you do and you listen to that discussion its continuing opens to because with celebrations again this year as usual do you sort of look at that discussion and think we should be moving on here we should be moving away from that discussion and moving towards germany future as a more diverse and the more. Precisely that as a more Diverse Society i mean in the 1st place we have to acknowledge that germany itself is already a verse we have lived experiences that go beyond being instant western german and for example my story but also like so many other stories that have been unheard because the story usually have been told from the west german perspective and even german people try to tell more of their stories and i think theyre valid to be heard. Vladimir understood just wanted to come back to your sort of optimistic take on the process because you know we all know the do this to this term this horrid term was used the aussies to sort of almost look down on denigrating young people from the i just wanted to know would you ever turn to you never ever never you were never called and also you never sort of people were amazed when they realised im from the east actually youre really from he said the 2 would have believed it so they had their cliches in mind obviously you know even my wife when we had our 1st 2 or 3 dates he thought im from the west shes from the east and it took at least a 3 dates. For her to learn that im actually also from the east and it was a living here adapted very well to the system probably yeah. Well of the heart of berlin of the heart of german reunification is Potsdamer Platz once it was one of the busiest traffic hubs in the world and it was later wiped from the map but its back so whats a people there say about the coming together of east and west 30 years of them. After reunification plots in the heart of berlin became the biggest building site in europe now its once again i was lively bustling district this is all that reminds people of where the war once stood. Germany is one country i never accepted east germany im glad its gone it is. I knew the old east germany i was 10 at the time and felt very positive about it what came next was a very tough time for us teenagers and kids because our parents lost everything but looking back id say it was nonetheless a good thing. I think were on the right track in my generation at the latest he wont be able to tell whos from the east and whos from the west. Is that really the case. Might who im im surprise you know that sort of aspiration have people been used in the west shouldnt be different the difference shouldnt be a part of what do you say i think we have to acknowledge the differences not only between western and eastern german people but also the riot that that make the society diverse and the way. That we have to learn from those. Identities that we can acknowledge them and feel compassion for them. In some parts it is because for example my generation is speaking up about those past and histories which people dont know about yet and we hope that in the future. People in general not all west. Will understand the history behind existence is interesting. To you you found it in addition to the cold we all the east you know rain lee young. Who are proud to be germans would have a proud of well they actually poke fun at the media because. Sometimes i meet people from the east and like this and they put them all in one box and this box is not very positive connotative so along side with the rise of right wing populism the word never mind the media reports and. This is problematic because the majority i think percent voted for democratic Democratic Political parties and not shown and so we saw decay maybe we have to give them a platform and so people on our platform tell about their story and they many of them for the 1st time publicly. Talk on popular what they or their family actually experienced as experienced so we want some poll. To be so one very common example is that many people who are from the Younger Generation say well they didnt have parents who had that much time because people of course they were busy to find new jobs 2 thirds of the people in east germany lost their jobs and. Yet so they had to become very early and but also i think this gives some strange experiences. Transformation is actually a skill we need nowadays and it will be great for them so thats really important its a very very important point im actually proud of many years germans what they actually facially in this 8990 and also in the ninetys in a way that had depth to a totally different system to totally to the political system would we use todays resilience yeah yeah yeah i think they i mean not all of course i mean not all i mean many many many lost lost their jobs and head like a broken biographies and so on of course of course and especially when you talk about minorities by the way for example the vietnamese minority or the cuban minority and so on they had really really problems strong problems so. Most of the other if somebody did a good job yes of course. It was a tough time back then and it still is it will always be a tough time even whenever a person migrates nowadays and if they wont ever identify themselves with the german identity for example africa who moved to germany even after the my parents moved here and for them they will always be strangers thats what they are telling themselves and thats what they tell us and the community so. I think its also part partially because they experience the kind of. Sorry. Experience that that identity is not being welcomed here and this is going to youre being very very cautious yes quite coarseness cautious because my existence and my identity is in danger in the German Society here when i go out and why i grew up with neo nazis in front of my door were talking about i mean it did back then in the 9th back then in 1900 specially it was a terrible decade in that respect i think. And thats how theyre still there has it changed us all or is it still the same threat the same level of threats to you to your well being when i was a child i could identify them by wearing black or being skin hats nowadays and this kind of disappeared in a way. They kind of. Became the same like everyone else and so its very hard to identify the person who would put in danger. One of the i was what i was on your side and i was looking of some of the statements that some of the people were making and one of the statements was. We we want people in the east. To know we want the beach to be seen as an opportunity and i said to myself ok you want to be
