And thats been actually not by the design of the executive government but the opposition back in late march so right after the pandemic started the opposition and Civil Society came together and pushed through emergency cash assistance and the government did not veto it and thats a result actually about one 3rd of the brazilian population currently receives emergency cash assistance from the government which is the highest level of any latin American Country however of course it doesnt need all basic needs well its relatively sufficient enough to buy food it doesnt necessarily cover rents and such and so still people for example in sao paulo who lose their jobs are still in dire economic straits so there is a social protection floor in brazil but of course it doesnt need to get all the devastating effects of the economic crisis and this is being pushed through by the opposition rather than go the government why have we seen covert really take off in latin america seems like the comparison to some other regions there was a bit more of a delay before cases really took off and still things have been pretty bad in countries like brazil. Policies are on i dont know what do you see. Well im not an epitome ologist but i can tell you this that part of me and humans are vectors of transmission and so social distancing measures have really helped to mitigate the spread of the virus however if you implement social distancing you absolutely have to also especially important countries make sure their families have the means to feed themselves while they stay at home and in countries that cant do that you cant expect people to stay at home a starve or watch their kids go hungry or knockout on the streets and try to make an income and so thats one of the key challenges that latin american countries as well as all developing countries have had is how to make sure that people can actually adhere to the social distancing measures and in a region with very high levels of in from ality in the workforce about half of the workforce is employed informally and you know if they lose their jobs from one day to the next that means their income disappears so you need to get help to them very very fast and that was a significant challenge in pretty much every single letter American Country except that had a Strong SocialProtection System going into the crisis perhaps more comparable to what you see in germany. And i think interestingly if you speak to the Jewish Community they didnt feel that this was a problem because she was visibly engaged in im creating the Jewish Community in society also this as she kept fostering the support that the state gives towards the Central Council of jews here and many shes not the one who put that on a legal footing that was get much without the former chancellor whos that today as well but she kept increasing funds to make sure that the dialogue with the joint Jewish Community in germany is not just about the responsibility that emanates from the pos but also looking into the future and making sure that there is space for jews and they are integrated as the integra part that they want and probably will be in the future as well. Jews feel safe in germany today.
