Help developing countries fight the coronavirus and German Foreign minister says International Solidarity is vital to defeating to pandemic. Im exposed or welcome to the program the sound of children playing has returned to the streets of spain theyve emerged from 6 weeks of home isolation after the government allowed them to go outside again spain imposed Strict Lockdown rules in march to stop the spread of the corona virus if the nation continues to reduce the infection rate authorities have promised to give citizens more freedom in the coming weeks. A snapshot of an unforgettable moment spains children and much from their homes on sunday for the 1st time after 6 weeks stuck inside children under the age of food. Cian are now allowed outside each day for up to one hour accompanied by an adult and within one kilometer of the homes critics of the spanish governments coronavirus lock down one of the Worlds Toughest had pointed out that even dogs allowed out for walks have had more freedom than the countrys children the relief out on the streets was palpable. Ive missed the streets the streets and the park the most and to feel the air on your face. I never thought i would miss school but i really miss it. Its in winter when youre right here yeah we appreciate being able to go out because staying home is getting very boring even though we have the playstation and we can talk to our friends and whats up and video calls but its good to be able to go out and have some fresh air because were feeling a bit overwhelmed at all but were kind of yeah with a lot of joy a lot of nerves the children were looking forward to going out after 45. 00 days at home theyre very happy and its a relief. That children over 14 still arent allowed outside and the lockdowns other conditions remain in place for now hes the Prime Minister says a further easing of restrictions may be on the horizon. And a movie i would like to announce that if the evolution of the pandemic continues in a positive direction as it is doing so far from a 2nd people will be allowed to go out for individual physical activity and walks with those they live with the always under the conditions set by the Health Authorities and can the american law that is. Later this week the government will unveil its broader lockdown exit plan raising hopes that scenes like these will become more common across the country. And joining us now for more insight on the situation from madrid is freelance journalist Martin Roberts martin what are the streets like now. Well. Leading the children of our earlier in the yes we did it cries the children who are. Some of whom separately meanwhile for dont have to write them another perhaps an intended consequence resort its a rather children tragic some of that was not meant to happen. The government expects criticism because technically arrested by arms they were not physically locked down. On the other hand children a baby. Is sleeping. You know they have to be treated because after 40 some days they didnt it was one of their wits and as with their parents now i can imagine a sense of relief on both sides there tell me though children older than 14 arent being allowed to go outside yet why not well they could be if they were to go shopping alone but again Restricted Movement i think it was felt that children in the front seat with the most vulnerable. To less options. Well. Again there was a lot of pressure a lot of pressure because i think it was the children you know were giving. This 1st step towards a loosening of the lockdown we have any and details about the governments next steps. Well. The full details. Not. Yet. Because this is a very controversial move was a lot of pressure. Because we. Can expect a very sharp reaction so i think whats happened. Next is. How. You know whether well be. Ok Martin Roberts in madrid thank you for that and. The coronavirus in the United States is fast approaching a 1000000 confirmed cases the death toll there has now surpassed 50000 around a quarter of the global death toll despite these grim milestone pressure is growing in some states to ease restrictions the governor of georgia has rejected warnings from Infectious Disease experts hes allowing many businesses to reopen including some where social distancing is almost impossible to enforce. On the day the coronavirus death toll in the usa rose above 50000 thomas putting was allowed to reopen his barber shop a barber in atlanta for over 50 years he now has to wear gloves and a mask while he cuts his clients hair. Off what ive been going since 6 oclock news morning oh wall bit about florida good hair theres a bird slow down. I got a play written by got a play by a barbers with muddy boot hill. Its not only barbers many businesses in georgia have been allowed to reopen like tattoo studios Bowling Centers and gyms cinemas and restaurants will follow on monday but not everyone is following suit this gym will continue to hold its classes on line. Better or not we opened today or monday or 2 weeks ago i didnt really matter unless our clients are still kept coming in addition to georgia the pioneer other Southern States in the us are planning to ease restrictions on experiment that others of us risking states with a democratic governor are mostly sticking to stricter measures. And as stressed as we are about getting back to work reopening up businesses we know that if we do it too fast a 2nd wave is likely and would be even more devastating than the moment that we are in the debate on the right time to reopen is emotionally charged in the us like here in wisconsin a large number of troops supporters across the country are protesting against the restrictions. You know. Your freedom your right you know why should my freedom. For the protests are financed and supported by right wing organizations yet these protesters remain a minority according to polls 2 thirds of americans fear restrictions will be eased too soon like these nurses at a counter protest. Laid out 1300 candles one for every coronavirus patient who died in a wisconsin hospital. Germany has pledged 300000000 euros in humanitarian aid to fight the coronavirus epidemic in poverty and crisis stricken countrys foreign minister said the virus posed a grave risk to those living in countries struggling with Health Care Systems as well as war zones and refugee camps he said International Solidarity was needed to end the pandemic germany is responding to a call by the United Nations to provide an additional 1000000000. 00 of relief 2000000000. 00 forgive me to contain the outbreak in less developed countries and lets bring in our political comedy Court CorrespondentThomas Sparrow tell us what is behind germanys decision here. Essentially nic whats behind that decision by germany is that a pledge that you mention and also that announcement by the United Nations that warning that the pandemic is affecting obviously all countries around the world but not all countries in a very equal way so the most Vulnerable Countries around the world are suffering more from this pandemic and thats why United Nations actually needs that extra money the money that you mentioned and that explains why germany as well announced so 300000000 and this goes to something very important in germanys Foreign Policy and thats that idea of multilateralism something that the foreign minister has stressed on various occasions in fact he has been looking for a socalled alliance for multilateralism and this explains why germany is giving this money to the United Nations to United Nations organizations because they believe germany that the United Nations can actually distribute that money accordingly and also help the countries that are most affected by this pandemic the countries that are most vulnerable be it to because of unarmed conflict or a war or because of the number of refugees or Different Reasons why germany has decided to give this money and what the United Nations could actually do with it and do we know in detail or some detail what the u. N. Might be doing with it. We do know nic in fact it has to do with those 2 carriers that i mentioned the fact that we have Vulnerable Countries that are vulnerable because they have been witnessing a conflict or a war all vulnerable groups also groups within the population for example refugees or Asylum Seekers and when you look exactly was going to happen with the money that germany has been giving to the United Nations or 300000000 you can see for example that the World Food Program will receive a good portion of that or the United Nations high commissioner for refugees or the red cross so that gives you an idea of what is going to happen with the money that germany has now plagued. Germany has also helped itself out understandably notably with the governments half a trillion euro bailout fund for struggling Companies Just in relative terms how generous is the u. N. Contribution. Obviously its important for the un and for the goals that the u. N. Has but this is only one part of germanys efforts worldwide germany has said that obviously solidarity is a key aspect of its Foreign Policy in particular when it comes to the pandemic but it is also by the way make a very controversial issue when you look for example in europe at that issue of solidarity there are different views among European Countries as to what that solidarity should look like and in particular theres also criticism from some countries is the way germany is looking at solidarity we saw that for example of the european level also this week but in general germany is indeed focusing on that idea of solidarity beats bilaterally for example by helping countries in need when it comes to bringing into germany patients all that repacholi ation program or now for example helping these countries as well that are most vulnerable through the United Nations program as well to diffuse thomas parel thank you for that insight. And stay in germany many of the farm workers who harvest seasonal projects here come from Eastern Europe their work includes picking one of the nations favorite vegetables asparagus without the Seasonal Workers to harvest cannot take place so authorities have agreed to allow 80000. 00 of them to travel to germany on special flights. Hubertus from grow to 50 hector farm has been in his family for generations asparagus is most important crop the german favorite. Nearly all the pickers here are foreign Seasonal Workers this year half of hubertus regular work force stayed away because of worries over the coronavirus those who did come have helped to recruit friends and families from romania and bulgaria. If they hadnt come it would have made things very difficult for a lot of farmers what would we have done the asparagus plants would have survived they would not have done well but they would have survived whether the farms would have survived is another matter. The contract workers arrived in germany on special flights they had to go into quarantine but were able to start work on the farm straight away several measures were put into place to keep everybody safe. Do you believe the ones and we divided the rooms into to keep people far enough apart we brought in different shifts times different breaks and meal times so that people coming in on shift do not meet. The workers are divided into separate groups about an inch but. Critics say harvesting the asparagus does not justify the risk of infection but the harvesters insists they feel safe. No problem work is going well everythings good no corona. I have work no corona everythings fine. And customers in germany are also happy they wont miss out on asparagus this yr. Some sports news in the London Marathon was supposed to take place this weekend like many other big sporting events the race was postponed now organizers are looking at a series of different scenarios for later in the year the director says theyre considering allowing only elite athletes take part in a marathon more than 40000. 00 runners lined up at the start of last year. Youre watching news next parser just watch. How to not. Just go over your concept discover with phobos. Alleging to 100 years the ideals of the bombs are more relevant today than they were a. 100 years ago visionaries reshaped things to come. People understood design is a way of shaping society
