Italian authorities confirmed on sunday that the famed venice carnival as well as sporting events in the coming weeks will be canceled. And for the latest on the corona Virus Outbreak in italy were joined now from rome by a correspondent seem hello to you seem so italy is the 1st country in europe to take such drastic preventative measures what does it mean for daily life in italy. Well just looking at specifically those 10 so towns in the d. C. That have been on this lockdown thats the red zone if you like and its affecting some 50000 or so residents and they really are not allowed to leave that area and no ones allowed to and anyone breaking this provision faeces or rissa fine voice well arrested being sent to prison so the authorities are tapping down hard on its restaurants businesses museums have all been closed and were looking at specifically the regions of lawn but d. C. As well as spend it along but where weve seen the highest number of cases up until now its really is said to have 132 inspections the largest coming from long but the day theyve decided to close who for the entire region for a week and that includes universities as well and the same goes for the belt so a region syria or 1st Division Football games have been canceled in those particular regions and as you mentioned then until the region which sees 25 infections and this is where venice is located theyve made the decision that as off this evening venice accountable activities will be suspended while it is still apparently unclear how exactly people got infected due time Health Authorities have any clues on this. Well weve just heard from the authorities from the Civil Protection services earlier today here it broke saying that essentially they still dont know who patient 0 is not patient 0 force its crucial to know the 1st person brought the virus into the context of these northern italian regions initially it was thoughts that it was a manager that the travel from china to its elite and had infected the socalled patient one thats a 38 year old man who is currently still in hospital but it turns out that that patient 0 tested negative twice book called with 19 virus and so it appears that isnt the cause of the infection so the authorities have said they still dont know bishan 0 is why is that important because by knowing patient 0 they will be able to track the part of the virus and of course the rate of the defection which is important for the moment though the authorities are doing everything they can to contain the infection breaks in any case to those areas affected theyve carried out some 3000. 00 or so swore sort of people to find out that they do indeed have the virus but those results are the Prime Minister has said that the situation is serious they are doing taking all the necessary precautions but there really is no need right now people to panic because they need to be working together to deal with this issue stephen govt are reporting for us from rome we thank you very much for that update all right lets turn our attention to our other top story now and u. To the berlin wall and now and a film focusing on the berlin wall well at least the remaining pieces of it many of which have been scattered around the United States the filmmakers Courtney Stevens and poncho velez made a documentary called the american sector looking into this evolution the 3. 5 metre high concrete blocks can be found all over the u. S. Many were collected by american institutions and by Interested Individuals over the past 30 years with their story the filmmakers reflect on how our view of the past is shaped by the context of the present day. When the directors of the american sector join me now in the studio to talk a bit more about their documentaries courting stevenson passion of ellis thanks so much for being on our program courtney and like to start with you what gave you the idea to make this film so for both of us the fall of the berlin wall as one of these events that was one of the 1st times that we experienced as children history happening though you know it was your parents telling you the remember this for the rest of your life and i think recently we have had so much conversation about walls and about borders and ideas around freedom in this country and we found that the wall was something that allowed people to talk about those ideas displaced on to Something Else now pasha do people in the United States understand the significance of the berlin wall i mean how did they perceive it well so as we as you went around and talk to people we discovered that in each place people really a scribe of freedom to the wall this idea of freedom but what freedom means can vary so much so we went to the microsoft headquarters and they said yes this was about freedom its about the free market. We went to the state department in washington d. C. And they said yes its about freedom the freedom that a lot. This brings you the freedom of representative government. We went to a military base and we talked with one of the commanders there and he said yes this is about freedom this is about the freedom that the that the American Military you know ensures for the for the rest of the world and so it really it turned out that the wall was an open symbol in the u. S. And people would project their own ideologies and thoughts and feelings about about these abstract ideas onto onto this this piece of history and now why did use decide to call the film the american sector well of course for referencing the area of berlin that was controlled by the American Military but it was also a way of acknowledging that this film is really about america and it is not as much about telling the actual history of the wall as it is using it as a way to talk about the present. And what encounter surprised you the most or what surprised you most in making this film. Well so one thing that surprised us a good deal was how much the cold war still lives on in the american consciousness and how much people still think about the world and how the world is organized through the lens of the cold war so the east and west. You know free and unfree. These are still the sort of. The the binary through which so many people in the United States still think about about this sort of complicated International Situation that we find ourselves in and now youve had 2 screenings of your film so far at the berlin what was the response by audiences court weve been really thrilled to show the film here we are screenings have been sold out last night we showed it can go international which was of course the great. Berlin movie palace and so its incredible and also very humbling to receive questions from people here who actually lived with the wall so yeah it has been thrilling its also our 1st time not only in berlin but in germany and so this is very exciting for us you know were very glad that youre here Courtney Stevens and. Thank you so much for telling us about your wonderful documentary film you say thank you to have you. Here watching d. W.
