Reporter Michelle Stockman whos been following this trend michelle what is wrong with marriage in south korea at least according to some women the women embracing this no Marriage Movement say that theres a complete 180 in terms of expectations for how theyre valued before marriage and after marriage before marriage they may have been ambitious professional women highly educated but after they get married theyre expected to put all of that aside expectations for personal fulfillment aside and really take care of the household now every marriage is different but in south korea its a very patriarca call society and so women are expected to be subordinate to their husbands and take care of their inlaws even as they age and so its trading a life of intellectual stimulation for one of labor and women are getting fed up theres a recent film that just came out was a real hit will bring that up right now its called kim young 1982 and it depends a woman who has quit her job shes taken care of her child she feels the pressure of her inlaws really a lot of mental gymnastics that shes going through and it really struck a nerve in south koreas time. Men and women have about marriage in south korea but how big is this no Marriage Movement in the country theres no official data on how many women are embracing this lifestyle but if we look at some other numbers we can see some trends that are going on in south Korean Society if you look at nearly or if you look at decade ago single south korean women said marriage was necessary more than half did and now just one in 4 south korean single women say marriage is necessary and marriage rates are plummeting by nearly half since 1960 race so even if theyre not consciously joining the movement the statistics speak for themselves they do really and women who are and bracing the no Marriage Movement or its also called the 4 nose which means no dating no sex no marriage no children there actually finding each other online and there are you tube channels sprouting up of women who are promoting this lifestyle i found one called solo deryni this is a channel that has 34000 subscribers and these are 2 single women who are going out enjoying their lives of single women theyre doing things like make unders where theyre cutting their hair theyre refusing to wear makeup rejecting that very pressurized south korean standard of beauty that expects women to look at doll like and theyre just saying look weve had enough enough is enough and i dont want to do this anymore and im going to live my life happily as a single woman for and knows i bet a lot of people outside of south korea a lot of women would be totally on board for that you know so literary told me that they have received an overwhelming response from women around the world who have felt isolated being single and now feel like they have a community that is giving them courage to live happily as a single woman i have to ask this question of course what do the men in south korea think all about all of this well so dirty.
