You a preview from washington also coming up kenyas president ial power today the Opposition Leader staged his own president ial inauguration the government reacted by outlawing his Political Movement is violence there and evitable and the tamper proof bottles that can be opened by hand and have the World Antidoping Agency up in arms just weeks before the Winter Olympics thousands of drug tests could suddenly be compromised. I bring golf its good to have you with us in just two hours u. S. President trump will do something that hes never done before and much of the world will be watching trump and you know will probably be about to deliver two hours from now his first state of the Union Address laying out his governments agenda for the year lets have a look at two of the key issues that hes likely to address tonight on trade its America First during his speech at the World Economic forum in davos last week mr trump said that the American Economy remains his top priority and that the nation was open for business. But america for years does not mean america alone when the United States grows so does the world immigration and the future of these socalled dreamers will be the other key issue the president has suggested that hes open to protecting the seven hundred thousand children of undocumented migrants who live in the u. S. Illegally in return the president wants the senate to approve billions of dollars in Border Security funding yeah a lot to anticipate tonights and were going to go to washington now to our Washington Bureau chief alexander phenomena shes going to be with us throughout the evening on this first drop state of the Union Address good evening to you alexander so what are we expecting tonight. Well actually the white house has just released excerpts from the president s speech and they reflect what is said to be one of his main messages the theme of unity one chord for example this is our new American Movement there has never been a better time to start living the American Dream or tonight i want to talk about what kind of future we are going to have and whats kind of nation we are going to be all of us together as one team one people and one American Family so the white house says that this is going to be a very optimistic bright and unifying speech and the president will be calling upon congress to get behind his proposal on immigration behind his ambitious infrastructure plan and he is expected also to tell it hes achievements and to try to convince his audience that all americans are being lifted up by his call izzys and alexandra dispute is really the event of the opportunity for the president as you know young term to actually unify the country and to talk in by partisan terms and not to treat this speech as a partisan Campaign Event do you think hell do that well you know every time the president sticks to the script he is able to deliver a successful speech we saw it last year during his first address to congress but the problem is that after the first year of his presidency there will be many skeptical faces in the halls gallery and across the country because many of his critics say that what they have seen during this first year was has been a very divisive president. That is true and the numbers reflect that weve never had a u. S. President to deliver a state of the Union Address with Approval Ratings this look that in mind we know what americans want to hear from the president tonight most president s in the past use the state of the Union Address to reach beyond their own base to to reach to people who didnt vote for them and i think that americans wants to hear from from the president once. Had what the challenges are are they are facing as a nation the question of the problem is as i said wherever people across the country are going to believe the president s words are right or Washington Bureau chief alexander phenomena i was under we will be checking in with you tonight throughout the course of the evening thank you very much and here in the studio with us tonight is a familiar face here on the w. Tyson barker from the Aspen Institute here in germany times its good to have you on the show let me adjust my seat here before we Start Talking so the question i think on a lot of peoples minds is are we going to see a u. S. President trump. B a b d and when it comes to staying on script or are we going to see him live and show what some people would say is the real face of president trouble well you know all indications are that theres going to be slightly new face and thats going to be a face of optimism its going to be continuation of the message that he delivered in davos that the u. S. Is open for business and essentially taking on that reagan message which is its morning in america what we saw in davos and even more so in his first you know trial run into state of the union immediately after the inauguration last year is that he can stick to script and right after that speech he got a lot of praise from all across the board saying he looked president ial but the question is what comes after the speech that really matters i think can he stay on script for the forty five minutes to lay out that agenda probably but what happens tomorrow and the day after is is pretty unclear and that is something that a lot of commentators have been talking about in the run up to tonight is that we do have this speech but then we have what happens afterwards and im not talking about just the democrats response im talking about what happens tomorrow morning when the president usually begins tweeting right i mean the first thing thats going to happen honestly is if he does stick to script if he does present this disciplined optimistic message which hits on four primary themes which are taxes the tax you know the tax bill big win for the president trade which is going to be kind of the big issue of twenty eighteen immigration which were already in the thick of with and Border Security and discussions about family reunification and the lottery system and infrastructure if hes able to stick to those four four themes hes going to get. Praise from from the media from the general public saying that he does look president ial and hes able to deliver disciplined message and if hes able to ride that euphoria a little bit maybe the white house and the administration can kind of rally around that and congress can kind of use that moment and to push some of those issues but weve seen this president in action for the past year and we know that event. Were going to inevitably overcome the speech itself and if we look at the calendar we know that in february which is just around the corner we have another deadline for the budget right we could have another Government Shutdown correct coming up unless the doc of this situation is solved theres a lot of brinksmanship area right so i mean could we actually be just a couple of weeks where we were we going to have to go with another Government Shutdown i mean is he going to have to talk about that i mean thats the real question you know weve seen this president is very thin skinned when it comes to criticism for a particular sliver of the American Public which is basically his base represented in congress by the Freedom Caucus and obviously by the leadership of paul ryan now the senate has said that they will have a vote on dhaka the white house is presented to a package an immigration package which includes stuff to twenty five billion dollars for Border Security and some other reforms and neither side is happy with this package including that base slice of the American Public so how hes going to rejigger that in the coming weeks is really anybodys guess and you know there are people taking bets tonight on whether or not he will mention russia and collusion meddling in the u. S. Election what do you think i mean where would you put your money well i dont think that hes going to mission mention collusion itself i mean its kind of like you know nixon saying im not a crook hes not going to say no collusion no collusion inevitably that leaves a guilty perception in the public mind that youll say its time for an end of this investigation into. I dont think so i mean id be very surprised if he addressed that because it puts him on the defensive and what his speechwriters what his team in the white house want to do in this moment is really put him as the Agenda Center and addressing a responding to those critiques from outside and from the event the live investigation itself will put him in a in a bad light but immediately after in the atmosphere its that we have we have you know obviously mccabe quitting early. From the f. B. I. We have this. Crescendo of call for the release of this republican drafted memo which is kind of a tempest in a teapot i mean the republicans and the House Intelligence Committee drafted this memo itself and now theyre saying that their hands are tied to release this memo but i dont think that this is going to be an issue hes going to want to address i do think it will come up in some of the responses by the democrats itll be interesting to see if that memo is released right after the speech and if that actually becomes the story theres a point or a type of archetypes youre going to be with us about that evening for our special coverage of this first state of the Union Address by u. S. President donald trump. And president from state of the Union Address starts at two am u. T. C. That is nine pm on the east coast of the United States and you can watch it live right here on d w and you can watch it online on live stream our here are some of the other stories now that are making headlines around the world a vatican sex crimes expert is heading to chile to investigate a bishop victims say covered up abuse by a pedophile priest pope francis came under fire earlier this month during a visit to the country he did saved the bishop from punishment and criticized the victims for speaking out hundreds of cattle on protesters have rallied in barcelona to show their support for separatist leader carlist quizzed him on this after lawmakers postponed a decision to reelect the program to disfigure as the regions president mr burrage from all things his arrest if he returns to spain and is currently in selfimposed exile in brussels separatist in yemen backed by the United Arab Emirates have seized the area around the president ial palace in the Southern City of ated it comes after clashes with forces still loyal to the president are yemens Prime Minister is reported to be preparing to flee the country for saudi arabia. Or participants in the latest round of syrian peace talks have ended their conference with a plan to draft a new syrian constitution the aim there is to help bring an end to the countrys civil war that has raged on now for almost seven years but syrias main opposition bloc boycotted the talks in the russian city of sochi and rejected the plans for a new constitution saying it was all insufficient meanwhile fighting has continued in one of the one of the syrian oppositions remaining strongholds. Bombs continue to rain down on the city of sara kipp in northwestern syria eyewitnesses say the Syrian Air Force has flown ninety such bombing runs killing twenty people these numbers have yet to be verified this is what remains of the or die hospital in cape it was struck by several blasts. This was the last place people could get treatment without paying for it and now we have to transport them much further away was thirty thousand people used to call home its in rebel hands controlled by a combination of islamic extremists and local militias its one of the last holdouts against president assad. People from the entire is lip region took refuge and sarah keep now no one is safe refugees and locals must leave the city. These people have set up camp next to a nearby highway they say their supplies are running out but they have nowhere else to go. Not yet or not weve been everywhere around here and everywhere they drive us away i just hope we can return home someday. The u. N. Estimates that around two hundred thousand people are displaced in the region and theres little hope of a break in the violence. Corporate america is taking matters into his own hands it seems when it comes to the Health Care Reform online retailer amazon or in buffetts box when j. P. Morgan chase are teaming up to offer their us employees Quality Health care they say at a reasonable cost will be three c. E. O. s at the new company will be independent and free from profit making incentives the initial focus would be on technology to provide simplified high quality and transparent kabal shares in Health Care Companies took a big hit in early trading on the York Stock Exchange hinting at the threat that the new entity poses to existing Health Care Structures in the u. S. Well our financial correspondent yens quarter is in new york for us he has been tracking that story yes where the future of the u. S. Health care reform unclear though is this a case of seizing a Business Opportunity old stepping into a gap and providing a service because they find something lacking. Well i mean certainly the u. S. Healthcare system is extremely expensive for american says spend about three point five trillion dollars each year on their health stats roughly twenty percent of total g. D. P. But theyre also might be incentive to join those companies in the future if they can really offer you Cheaper Health Care weve seen something similar by the way after World War Two when companies were not allowed to increase wages too much soul they gots new talent they got workers was offering a social incentives like pensions or health care financed by the corporation and as we are seeing almost full employment in the us that could be a way for those companies to attract talent and skilled workers right meanwhile yes weve been seeing quite the sell off that so why have investors been so fretful. I mean certainly the Health Care Stocks did not help we had pharmaceuticals we had Insurance Company is that we had to direct or stay and jains are for quite some under quite some pressure but probably cause the sell of that already started on monday is the bond market do we see a yields in kuwait increase increasing quite a bit especially for the ten year note and that means on one side that there we will see an alternative to stocks and then on top of it if rates are going to increase more than recently expected that also makes debt more expensive so that probably because of the sell off and was into trading days were down almost five hundred fifty points for the dow jones right yes go to on wall street thanks for that yes. Now the u. S. President will deliver his first state of the Union Address later in which he is expected to promote his America First policy just last week he made good on the promise when it came to his trade policy slapping tariffs on soda panels made by Chinese Companies and the americans doing business in china say that move could backfire. Solar Panel Producers of the u. S. And europe have long complained of unfair chinese competition so it should have come as no surprise when u. S. President donald trump target an important for the voltaic products when he imposed his very first import tariffs. I have taken action to oppose safeguard tariffs on imported residential washing machines and all solar products my administration is committed to defending American Companies and theyve been very badly hurt. The thirty percent tariffs were lower than us producers have been calling for but now the u. S. Business but china warn that beijing is set to strike back. If that does go forward. I have been told by certain officials that yes definitely there will be retaliated and they say there is little understanding in china for the u. S. Position beijing believes the americans simply want to undercut their competitive advantage. One of the difficulties that members find in that we find in terms of meetings with their chinese count interlocutors Chinese Government officials and others. Is a. An unwillingness to acknowledge that the air market is less open than ours to begin with. And with washington preparing to announce the results of an investigation into whether trying to pressures companies to handover technology there could be trouble ahead so when it comes to dealing with china. Or political turmoil in kenya the government has outlawed Opposition Leaders. As National Resistance movement came after mr odinga took a symbolic president ial oath of office at a mock inauguration ceremony in nairobi has disputed the countrys president ial election result since last august the Supreme Court ordered a rerun last october which boycotted calling it a sham. After the ceremony of david his twitter profile to describe himself as the president of the republic of kenya and in a tweet showing him at the mock inauguration he described himself as graciously accepting the mandate granted by granted by the kenyan people. Thousands assembled in the kenyan capital to support Opposition Leader. Supporters have been gathering in a hundred park since early this morning. Its an important day for us and i have come on time i dont want to miss our fellow we are with that big. Thing that was obvious that the citizens of this country are not allowed to this will be a summer here and the lets all president s as well the closer to. The police initially used tear gas to disperse the crowd while odinga wanted to use this occasion to denounce or he says was brought about by election making at noon he cited an oath of office in a mock inauguration and pronounced himself as the peoples president so today is a historical day in our country of kenya he said kenyans have decided to remove themselves from the dictatorship that came about through fixed even. Shortly after his speech a dig at disappeared kenyas attorney general has threatened to charge him with treason which could lead to Capital Punishment the government has denounced the opposition as a quote organized criminal Group DespiteInternational Recognition of president who can unite as we election amid low voter turnout he had three private broadcaster shut down to prevent a live transmission of the ceremony wasnt upsetting to me to think that the president of the kanawha the right information to censor and that was just what a good thing is that we have social media which are not using and that is a very. Big to get information out of these cars Mainstream Media of all has been compromised. The situation remained calm despite the turn of events in the kenyan capital over the past few months more than a ninety kenyans have been killed in election related disputes.
