And Helena Humphrey thanks for joining me a massive rally is underway in barcelona against plans by Catalan Leaders to declare independence this is spanish Prime Minister mariano to horses he will prevent the region from declaring independence well organizes a nearly a million demonstrators have packed into the center of barcelona this forces of catalonia remaining part of spain for hoyo expressed support for the protesters. Well lets bring in correspondent gail matters now youve been out on the streets of boss alona what a people saying. A lot of the demonstrators today told me that theyre very keen that the message comes across that this is not a nationalist this is. Its not a radical demonstrations for pro spain but this is really the silent majority many people here said they havent been voting because that was regarded as illegal in the referendum they havent been on the streets so far but now they really have the feeling they have to do something and stop this madness they see the big crisis coming and a day youre currently you see people coming mainly back from the center already there are thousands tens of thousand people in the street today and i was able to talk to some of them today in the heart of the demonstration in barcelona lets just what they had to say unfortunately most of our politicians specially on the republican side are controlled by the n. R. A. You know theyre bought and paid for and theyre not listening to where American Public wants and its its very frustrating very frustrating im going on or i am gail im sorry about that that was the wrong clip but gail i want to come back to you and asking whether the size of these protests shows that a majority of catalans are against independence. Well it really depends on which side you do believe if you listen to what the pro in apart camp basically says is they claim that many people have been tracked in with buses that this is not the majority of in the country that there is a clear result of this referendum with ninety percent voting for independence if you believe people here today who told me look the it was illegal for us to vote in this referendum so thats why we abstained in boycotting the referendum and now were out on the streets and we want to make clear that catalonia is an integral part of spain we feel spanish but we feel also catalonian and if you take a look at recent opinion polls you can see a bit of a shift where there was always in opinion polls a majority for not declaring independence that part has increased to a gale will Mariano Rajoy slightest warning influence the Catalan Government and stop it declaring independence of the big question really now is if the Catalan Leader can actually not declare independence on the one hand that would be seen as a sign of weakness so there is huge pressure on him to do exactly that because that was promised to the Pro Independence can in the probably depends can paint on the other hand he. Is clearly aware of the fact that declaring independence unilaterally would mean that the out tony of this region would be suspended and an already deep political crisis could then escalate. Matters in barcelona thank you very much. Now some of the other stories making news around the walt. Turkish forces have exchanged fire with tartaria sharma syrian militant group along the turkish Syrian Border this off to ankara and else that the Syrian Rebels backed by Turkish Forces would launch an operation into the region takis president had warned that his country would not allow a quote terrorist corridor or near its borders. Hurricane in eight has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm after hitting the u. S. German chancellor Angela Merkel is facing some potentially difficult talks today now she is meeting with the head of the varian sister party the c. S. U. To try and agree a common position and head of talks to form a new government and the two parties are at odds over the issue of migration the c. S. U. Criticized merkels decision to allow so many refugees into the country in twenty fifteen they say this led to a surge in support for the far right a f d a party. Well for more now im joined by our chief Political Correspondent melinda crane melinda tell us why all these talks so important today and are we likely to see sparks fly i think we are likely to see sparks fly and theyre important because in order to Start Coalition talks with the other potential partners in in the coalition. The chancellor first test to achieve some kind of unity between her own party and its Bavarian Sister Party the Christian Social Union and these two parties are essentially umbilically joined theyre often referred to as sister parties but the fact is they differ very deeply on issues such as immigration and the head of that very and sister party essentially now has his back to the wall many people view him as politically vulnerable because the party got fairly weak results in the recent election therefore hes under pressure to try to essentially affirm his own very conservative position but hes facing a chancellor who quite well will object to that so i think very tough talks today and yet no other talks with any other potential partners can go ahead until these two parties are in agreement right and some have. To move further to the right in order to win back some support for people who chose to then vote for the a. F. P. The question is well indeed we are told that the head of the Bavarian Party has to say hope for is arriving with a ten point plan and amongst these ten points are the absolutely key issue for him namely an upper limit on immigration now the chancellor has said in the past thats a no go for her she is not going to agree to such a thing other members of her party have suggested that perhaps it could be solved semantically by for example agreeing on some kind of flexible cap that isnt called an upper limit but i think certainly as i say with a vulnerable head of the Bavarian Party and the chancellor having gone on the line is saying she will not agree to such a thing his work is likely to be difficult and if you look at polls in general around half of germans say the c. D. U. Needs to stay right where it is and shouldnt move to the right and that includes members of the party itself so again i think his ability to convince her will be limited briefly two weeks now since the judgment and that. Put us out of our misery when can we expect a new government quite possibly not even before the end of the year were waiting for very important local elections in the state of lower saxony after that this bavarian c. S. U. Will have their own Party Conference thats not till mid november many people say nothing will happen till after that and that means it could be january or later chief Political Correspondent melinda crane thank you very much. Mission accomplished now that germany has qualified for next years world cup the pressure is off as an exception the German Football Association even let the fans in to watch the Team Practice you have a few months i left talk a little on the squad through able to qualify us so they could just come one and i would like to build up the momentum again and to boeing and its now all about claiming a spot on the team for next years tournament thats why for les on going to this match against azerbaijan is so important the shock a player could be a starter to shore up the midfield them once and if you analyze the entire game like this you then get to see the kind of space he constantly opens up down the field while back in midfield over me thats whats expected from a midfielder hes also dangerous on go go was a member of germanys extended squad at the last world cup but had to bow out because of injuries now hes back on the team. The short of writing is was that ive still got a few things to learn accumulating experiences and need them so that i can further establish myself in my position. On freedom and hope. Where i come from the region is rich in history style and talent but so poor in education opportunity and freedom this makes it especially difficult for independent journalists i see many of the young and promising journalists are now making names for themselves all over the. Song like get along the way songs like follow. With continue. Their experience of freedom a sense is like the unions that you can visit with your car come back. Just before that and i work at. Hi and welcome back to their is music were in huts the bro in denmark and we have a very danish episode planned today the danish String Quartet are playing danish folk songs in denmark you cant get more danish than that. The danish String Quartet are performing here in hopes to blow up the classic a Day International music festival. This city is full of art and music and everyone here knows that the danish String Quartet is in town. Yes thank you for inviting us to your wonderful festival holstered but this festival is really huge but it must be amazing if you to have real danish stars here it is because as you said specializing in inviting and internationally but its just a wonderful thing that we have a danish quartet like this is very unusual other danes very proud of the danish String Quartet incredibly proud but also because they i think one of the special qualities is that. They mix a lot of. Traditions to folk music from nordic countries and yes and they give it a new life and you really feel audiences connect with it great people to be with. You. I mean denmark with the danish String Quartet and danish pastries tell me do you guys actually eat these things because all we all know about danish pastries thats the best in the world really yeah ok but anyway im going to ask you stuff so so yeah. So while i chew. The first question the danish thing quartet thats quite a name but i read you inherited this name right yeah i think we would never call us that again actually but we were young and and foolish know that and it was its a generation name that it was first a flute quartet in the thirtys where the beulah player had a song that also was of the older player the sundin made a quartet in the fiftys and sixtys that was the danish quarter then the son of this field of play i made another generation of a danish called sit in the eightys and then this last son he didnt have any string playing so the name was kind of up for grabs and he happened to be our mentor and teacher so we in the in this hunt for a name we had a lot of different names and this was a name we had in one concert where there happens to be a nice review its a good name was the young things trinkets back then actually i mean i you know young anymore so you can but youre saying that well yeah well it it was kind of stupid to put the young thing in the beginning anyway but but then we just ended up sticking with that name and now we we got used to it you were called the young danish String Quartet and now the danish String Quartets quite a big thing to live up to that i think yeah yeah it is you can say its like a big thing to call yourself in the industry but at the same time we are very small country and basically were the only full time String Quartet in the country and you know as s. B. And mentioned it was just something we picked when. We were younger and i mean one name that we could all agree upon was not super bad i guess. I did have a great a life but i think i think its a great if and you say you chose it when you were younger it really was when you were younger because youve been together for a long time already a very long time it feels like a lifetime but he meant it because we met when we were very young we met. And i there was this and there is this small school in the danish countryside that has a one week summer festival each year people came there for there because they had a huge love for music and we were brought there most of us by our parents and we were playing in two or cursed orchestras during the day and then during the night of throughout the night you were playing to jimmy was it together but this is just the three of us because you have that you have a foreigner in your midst frederick how did you how did you find find the quartet did they find you did you go to this camp you know no i didnt i. The three of us actually studied together in sweden the Nordic Community is very small and its like its natural to go over borders. And there was a good school so so we all went there. Yeah. Yeah yeah. Yeah. The repertoire you play goes from early today and the audiences love it wherever you go i love the fact you can play beethoven in the first half and then you play folk stuff in the second half but what when the audience go out i bet they say oh we love that folk stuff how can how can we get audiences today to be as excited about beethoven as they are about your folk music for us its very natural to play very different things. We dont find a conflict between something that you see going and something thats very deep and we find it quite easy to switch from the different states of mind but of course when you do a program you have to make sure that it makes sense we would never do an easygoing danish jake after beethoven opus one thirty one that would be an insult to everybody to the folk musicians and the beethoven connoisseurs like he said to the folk musicians as well yeah you know. Because were not actually focus issues were just distributed fooling around with some traditional music i have another question about bringing music to young people because here at the classes good day is that right class a school day i mean first of all youre doing quite a lot for young people of the master class the lifestream master class and these pop up concerts talking to to the young people do you make it make it a distinctive effort to include that in what you do. Because you seem to really appeal i spoke to one one young string player yes and theyre like change String Quartet the danish think they were so excited to have you like pop stars we always love it when young people come but its not something that we. Specifically aim for actually we want to project a very honest feeling and something that im comfortable being in and something thats of high very high quality and i thing. Every easy way to get young peoples attention is to project something thats honest i think they feel right away if youre trying to get them you know if you try too hard thats what i felt when you think ok weve got to get a hand out or come here baby right and if you put on the pink light what haydn String Quartet or something you know its going to stink when theres been in danish you say its like theres a fishy smell or think you know right thats all for if theres music for today were going to enjoy a little bit more danish String Quartet magic now see you next time and hifi was to grow.
