The DAA has formally applied to have two planning conditions attached to Dublin Airport’s new runway amended to ensure higher utilisation of the €320m project.
The conditions for the 3.1km runway, now due to be operational in 2022, include one that means it cannot be used between 11pm and 7am. That would exclude what outside of the pandemic period is typically an extremely busy period as morning flights depart and arrive.
The other condition sought to restrict the total number of night-time flights at the airport to no more than 65 between 11pm and 7am once the new runway opens. Before the pandemic, Dublin Airport was already operating about 100 flights during that period.
