Driver’s education in area high schools has always meant classroom instruction mixed with the memorable part for teens — driving with an instructor.
The coronavirus pandemic put the brakes on the driving. Students in area high schools can still take the classroom instruction online, but the requirements for driving shifted to the parents.
It’s been a challenge for Sue Bagatell of DeWitt, whose 16-year-old is learning to drive at Manlius Pebble Hill. Teens are more likely to accept direction from a driving instructor instead of a parent.
