LAKELAND — As the summer heat hits its peak, there will be a new option for getting around downtown Lakeland without breaking a sweat.
Lakeland's public transit agency will launch a shuttle service dubbed The Squeeze, operating on weekday lunch hours and weekend evenings starting in July. A one-year pilot program was unanimously approved by Citrus Connections' board of directors on Tuesday at their annual retreat.
"This is a tectonic shift in thinking," Tom Phillips, executive director of Citrus Connection, said.
The shuttle service will utilize two electric carts on a fixed route circulating around Munn Park to different points of interest. The routes and stops have not yet been decided, but a focal point has.
