DoorDash backs down from higher fees on D.C. restaurants after city attorney general steps in

On the same day DoorDash went public on the New York Stock Exchange, with shares trading well above the opening price of $102, the country’s leading meal delivery service suffered a setback in Washington D.C., where the company agreed to not raise fees on a premium program that could have charged restaurants as much as 30 percent per order during a pandemic that has already devastated the hospitality industry.
DoorDash’s decision came one day after the D.C.’s Office of the Attorney General sent a cease-and-desist letter to the San Francisco-based company, saying its plan to implement higher fees for the DashPass premium service would violate the Coronavirus Support Temporary Amendment Act of 2020, an emergency piece of legislation that capped delivery fees at 15 percent during the pandemic.
