Generations have turned to Brookline's Puppet Showplace Theater as a source of entertainment, and for nearly 50 years, the theater handily delivered.
That is, until a recent embezzlement scandal left Puppet Showplace nearly bankrupt and threatened to bring down the curtain for good.
The theater, which provides children and adults the opportunity to learn about puppetry through workshops and classes, has been an entertainment hub in Brookline since its 1974 founding. Puppet Showplace has also provided a space for puppeteers from across the country to perform and perfect their craft.
However, this treasured and historic institution may be at risk of permanent closure, after embezzlement – coupled with the financial hardships inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic – left the theater's bank account drained.
