Donated marine diesel engines give Fletcher students hands-on experience
Marine diesel students at Fletcher Technical Community College will have the opportunity to earn hands-on experience thanks to four donated marine diesel engines.
The four 6M26.3 engines were donated by Baudouin, a company based in southern France. The company distributes engines in the United States through Florida-based Motor Services Hugo Stamp.
The engines will allow Fletcher students to learn important skills by working on the same service-friendly engines used by four nearby Louisiana shipyards officials said.
“Operations of this size incorporate a sizable workforce of highly skilled and paid trade jobs,” Motor Services Hugo Stamp Territory Manager Dual Yelverton said. “The value to students of being able to work on these engines is much more than just nominal. These engines will enable them to expand their knowledge of innovators in the industry in terms of electronic engine components, hybrid systems and alternative fuels.”
