Forty-one years after “9 to 5” debuted, Dolly Parton is reimagining her iconic work anthem. For Squarespace's 2021 Super Bowl ad, Parton retuned the 1980 hit with lyrics about entrepreneurs putting in the extra hours to launch their own businesses after their day jobs (with a little help from the website builder, of course). “Working 5 to 9 you've got passion and a vision 'cause it's hustlin' time a whole new way to make a livin',” she sings in the clip, which can be viewed above. “Gonna change your life do something that gives it meaning with a website that is worthy of your dreamin'.” “I loved the idea of taking my song ‘9 to 5’ and mixing it up for a new Squarespace campaign. That’s the beauty of music, it is always changing and growing to meet the world around it,” Parton said in a statement about the project.“There’s a whole new generation of people out there ready to change the world, to meet the growing needs that they see, and I think Squarespace is going to be there with them every step of the way.” While just a snippet of the song can be heard in the spot, a full 2 and half minute version is also available on Spotify. In the ad, Parton's song is paired with choreography by New York City Ballet choreographer Justin Peck and features dancers from Broadway and off-Broadway, including the ballet's Robbie Fairchild."Justin and I go way back to being roommates in the dorms at school so getting to work on a Super Bowl commercial together with Dolly Parton was unbelievable," Fairchild said about the experience of working on the ad. "Another incredible feather in the cap for us. As a dancer, being employed in the times we're in feels like mana from heaven and every time we blasted Dolly Parton’s music in the room it was pure bliss. I mean, it’s Dolly Parton, the patron saint of 2020."
