BAGUIO CITY – The City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the City Health Service Office has reported a 36 percent increase in dog bite incidents here last year compared to the same period in 2019.
CHSO Medical Officer IV Dr. Donnabel Panes said most of these happened where the dog bite victims live. There were 3,520 dog bite incidents in the city last year compared to the 2,704 in 2019.
Panes said no rabies cases reported in the city since 2004 because of the city government’s aggressive anti-rabies campaign.
City Veterinarian Dr. Brigit Piok urged dog owners here to vaccinate their pets against rabies as March is Rabies Prevention Month with the theme “Maging Responsableng Amo: Huwag Hayaang Gumala ang Alagang Aso’t Pusa.” Piok said the city government intends to vaccinate some 60,000 dogs this year.
