An emergency room doctor is recalling the moments he helped save a 5-year-old girl after a car crash in a Salem neighborhood. Dr. Tim Chu ran to help Giuliana Tutrone after a crash sent debris into her home and a granite post hit the 5-year-old in her home, breaking her jaw and severing a vein in her neck."I saw Giuliana, she was on the ground and there was a man holding a towel to her neck and obviously it was pretty bad, the towel was pretty much soaked in blood," Chu said.Chu said he applied pressure to the neck wound and helped paramedics apply a pressure bandage. He immediately told them to call for a helicopter to take Giuliana to Boston, getting her the exact help she needed and saving precious time."The first hour of trauma's always the most critical, so anything you can do to speed it up is always the best," Chu said.Court documents said the driver in the crash, Scott Dowd, admitted to having several drinks before he got behind the wheel. As for Giuliana, her family tells News 9 she is home and in good spirits. They plan to have Dr. Chu over soon to say thank you in person.
