Dispute over pay causes sparks at school board meeting

ASHTABULA — A dispute over meeting pay caused some sparks to fly at the Ashtabula Area City Schools board meeting on Wednesday night.
Board of Education member Timothy Fleming said he is seeking payment for a work session and meeting that were held back to back in November. He said the district has thus far declined to pay him, stating that the board’s policy is that members are only paid for one meeting when two meetings are held back to back.
“If the policy was ... ‘Hey, we don’t pay [for] back-to-back meetings,’ I would understand that, but the policy doesn’t say that,” Fleming said.
