Now more than ever, says Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, there isn’t much space in life to let go and see what happens. To abandon control, to take a risk. “Denmark is a pretty chaste country in some ways,” he says. “Very rational. We like to think of ourselves as happy people: it’s a bit of a shire, really, with hobbits! But then there is this need to go crazy, which I find very interesting.”
