Many residents in Dewey Beach cherish year-round beach access and daily walks to take in the deep-orange sunrises or watch birds swoop over the dunes.
But over the past several months, many Dewey residents and town officials have become frustrated as wireless communication poles popped up along the beach entrances, obscuring these beloved views.
“Right now, we don’t have a say as to what can be put onto the public right of way regarding wireless communication,” said Jim Dedes, Dewey Beach assistant town manager.
Following a 1983 agreement between the Delaware Department of Transportation and the town of Dewey Beach, DelDOT maintains public roads and rights of way in town limits and processes any permits for construction – including installation of utility poles, like the ones that have emerged in recent months.
