Louisville native DeVante Parker was in town on Saturday holding his first football camp in the city. "Wind down some, sit back, enjoy and have fun with the kids. That's all that's it's about," Parker said. The former University of Louisville, Ballard High School and current Miami Dolphins wide receiver came back to his hometown before the start of the season. "You know it feels good, haven't been back in a long time and just happy to be back," Parker said. "I haven't been back in a while and, you know, it just feels great to give back to the community and I'm just glad I could do this." What he could do was hold a free football camp for kids between eight and 14 years old. He says he hasn't done a camp in Louisville yet, "So I figured it was probably time to have a camp out here. I'm just glad it was a good turnout." The former UofL Cardinal also got assistance from current Cardinals to help run the camp. "Man it's good having them out here, helping out volunteering," Parker said. "They probably had other things to do but they came out and volunteered for this and I appreciate them for that." Some of those Cardinals even have their own memories from camps like these when they were kids. "I remember when I was little -- DeMeco Ryans, he's actually from Alabama -- he used to do a lot of camps. All the time he used to come out there and every year he would have one," Louisville quarterback Malik Cunningham said. "I would go out there, get a new shirt and a new autograph. It's always good to be out there and, you know, someone who actually play in the league for where you're from." Now Cunningham and his teammates get to help out and teach the kids a thing or two about the game of football. "Feels good to be able to give back to the community," Cunningham said.Louisville Metro Police Department and the Louisville Metro Police Foundation were among the sponsors for the event.
