Detroit campaign field comes into focus: Castañeda-López, Spivey won't run, Tom Barrow joins mayor race
Detroit City Council members Raquel Castañeda-López and André Spivey do not plan to seek re-election.
A host of candidates are coming to the fore while some well-known names are backing down from the spotlight in Detroit's 2021 mayoral and City Council elections.
Tuesday was the deadline for candidates to file to run after collecting nominating petition signatures. A lot is up for grabs as city lawmakers Raquel Castañeda-López and André Spivey say they're not running for re-election.
The mayoral field is also coming into clearer focus, with Mayor Mike Duggan vying for a third term with former deputy mayor Anthony Adams — who announced his run earlier this year — and perennial candidate Tom Barrow, who has teased his campaign on social media but officially came out Tuesday afternoon.
