that number was about 12.5 to 15 years. and the judge departed upward. he found two aggravating circumstances, that chauvin's actions were particularly cruel, and that chauvin abused the position of trust as a police officer. so he went from that presumptive 12.5 to 15 years or so up to 22 years. it's exactly what he should have done. his opinion, which i read earlier today, is methodical and linear and cogent and thoughtful. if you haven't read it, i think you should. i think your viewers would find it interesting to see how the judge reasoned through it. that's how he came up with a number that apparently nobody particularly wanted. some people wanted more, some people wanted a lot less. i think the judge ended up in the right place, brian. >> chief best, it struck me that the sentencing came down this afternoon, at least here on the east coast, just as the four to 12 shift was getting underway
