looking at hawley, are voters aware of his record? are they voting for hawley or are they voting for donald trump? >> reporter: mostly both. it sounds like they want someone who will back up the president but they're aware of the fact that he's the attorney general here and there's been folk who is have been able to cite some of the more specific things he had done in that role. i think it's a pretty solid mix of both things. many of the folks are republicans and like to see a republican agenda enacted. it's similar to what we heard in florida where a lot of people were saying these mid term elections are a feeder into 2020. many of those people said they wanted to vote for trump again. it's to continue this agenda that they voted for in 2016 through 2018 and through 2020. >> it's also fascinating the way it's forced claire mccaskill to change some of her rhetoric and the way she talks about donald trump. we're going to get more into
