them back. the russian then said, well, i have them. i have the computer codes. i have all of the tools and i will give them to you if you pay me. all of a sudden he started saying i have all this compromising information about donald trump and the agencies were kind of taken aback. they said we don't really want that. especially because it all appeared to be fake. the documents that the russian was apparently giving them that seemed compromising to president trump were apparently sourced mostly from news reports. there was nothing kind of sensitive or new in those reports that the russian was trying to hand off. of course, he was also trying to say that he had a video of trump consorting with prostitutes in moscow and things like that, which the agencies were very wary of getting their hands on. not only would it have been likely doctored or false or whatever, it also would have created discord within the u.s. government if it had emerged that the cia had obtained this video about trump and then was, you know, potentially pitted
