but here is the not so good news for the new president. president trump's mid-february approval rating was 40%. now that was lower than any of his predecessors had at the same paint point in their presidency dating back to president eisenhower. let me go back to you, jay. good numbers or bad numbers for the president? >> well, there's both, but generally not so great. i mean, i think what you see -- what you don't see in the numbers you quoted there is the fact that he's got a really high approval rating amongst republicans and that's the good news for him. in the sense he's i think over 80%, 80% amongst registered republicans. that's where he needs to be with his base. >> i think if i'm right, my memory said he's up 14% since july on those numbers in that same poll and secretary clinton who hasn't been doing anything, she's gone down seven points not even being in the public eye. >> the problem, though, is that secretary clinton is no longer in public life at all. >> she's going down. how can your approval rating go down? you know, when you're at least not even out there doing anything. >> i think the approval rating ticking up for him is a good
