part of what we do in head start is teach parents to advocate for their children. so we will tell them to -- where to write letters and to talk to their congressmen about this. there's really no place to send them. the head start families are the poorest of the poor. in some ways, becoming a head start student is like winning the lottery of early care and education. there's nothing like it for low-income children in los angeles county the way there is with head start. >> amanda, let me bring you in. part of the sequester, which we've all said this line over and over, is it was supposed to be so bad that both sides would come up with a deal and we wouldn't see this. the follow-up or the dot, dot, dot to that, it seems, that many of these programs are for the poorest and those in the most need who see the suffering. in this case, it is head start. some of the cuts, quickly, california has the largest reduction in students, now serving 5600 fewer children. texas, my home state, 4400 fewer
