it's the place where i gave my first big speech after i'd been elected to the u.s. senate. and this is back in 2005. and i talked at that time about the building blocks that we needed to put into place, the foundation, the cornerstones that we needed to make sure that the american dream is alive and well. >> joining me now, former labor secretary robert reich, now a professor of public policy at the university of california at berkeley. he is the author of "aftershock: the next economy and america's future." professor reich, you just happen to have written a book that is exactly about what the president wants to talk about tomorrow. what would you advise him to say? >> well, clearly, lawrence, he's going to try to pivot away from nsa controversies and the deficits, and he also understands that in the fall it's all going to be about lifting the debt ceiling and back to business as usual in terms of gridlock over the economy. so i think he wants to change the parameters of the economic debate. i have not seen the speech.
